North Korea fires missile, defying U.S. push for new sanctions

The Terminal High Altitude Defence (Thaad) system set up at a converted golf course in Seongju, in the country's south-east, has "early capability" to respond to North Korea's nuclear and missile threat, Defence Ministry spokesman Moon Sang Gyun said.

North Korea didn't immediately comment on its latest missile launch, though its state media on Saturday reiterated the country's goal of being able to strike the continental U.S. The North fired the same type of missile April 16, just a day after a massive military parade where it showed off its expanding missile arsenal, but US officials called that launch a failure.

General McMaster said North Korea poses "a grave threat", not just to the USA and its Asian allies, but also to China.

North Korea's attempt to launch a ballistic missile in the early hours of Saturday morning, apparently failed, reported a local South Korean Agency citing South Korea's military. Trump himself of Thursday warned of the prospect of a "major, major conflict" with North Korea.

Still, coming at a time of renewed global pressure on North Korea, the test was another sign of how totalitarian ruler Kim Jong Un is determined to make progress on his weapons programs regardless of what other countries may say. After the session, the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier was sent to waters near South Korea. "And I will tell you, a man that I've gotten to like and respect, Xi, I believe has been putting pressure on him (North Korean leader Kim Jong-un) also".

Secretary of State Tillerson urged all nations to not ignore the North's threats, and said he wants China to use its influence to stop their efforts.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 'considering Liverpool move'
Arsene Wenger remains hopeful Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did not suffer a serious injury in Arsenal's 2-0 win at Southampton.

The United States, Russia and China took part in six-party talks on North Korea's denuclearization from 2003 to 2009, along with Japan, South Korea and Pyongyang. "Those days must come to an end".

"Failing to act now on the most pressing security issue in the world may bring catastrophic consequences".

South Korea's navy says it has started joint exercises with US ships, including the supercarrier USS Carl Vinson, which the United States dispatched to the region in a show of force amid the growing threat posed by North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. North Korean officials boycotted the meeting, which was chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. "Bad!" President Donald Trump wrote on his Twitter account. "And it also means being prepared for military operations if necessary", he said. US officials said that missile spun out of control and crashed into the sea.

In an interview with CBS' Face The Nation, shown on Sunday, Mr Trump said Kim was obviously a "pretty smart cookie" as he took power in his 20s and held it despite "a lot of people" trying to take it away.

The official says the missile broke up a couple minutes after the launch and the pieces fell into the Sea of Japan. Additional patience will only mean acceptance of a nuclear North Korea. "I think they were ready for a (nuclear) test and building up pressure for a tough response but then (it didn't happen)", John Delury, associate professor at the Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies in Seoul, told CNN.
