The North's Ministry of State Security released a statement saying "the last-ditch effort" of US "imperialists" and the South had gone "beyond the limits".

Relayed by North Korea news agency KCNA, the statement also said that "they [the two agencies] hatched a plot of letting human scum Kim commit bomb terrorism targeting the supreme leadership" and claimed that the North Korean "collaborator" had been instructed to use biochemical substances to kill Kim Jong UN.

"Criminals going hell-bent to realize such a pipe dream can not survive on this land even a moment", the statement said, and denounced the agencies as "U.S. imperialists and the puppet clique". Officials at South Korea's National Intelligence Service were also not immediately able to be reached.

"A ugly terrorists' group, which the Central Intelligence Agency and the IS infiltrated into the DPRK on the basis of covert and meticulous preparations to commit state-sponsored terrorism against the supreme leadership of the DPRK by use of bio-chemical substance, has been recently detected".

Pyongyang presented extensive details but offered no concrete proof to back its accusations of the plot, which it said could never have succeeded.

It said South Korean agents gave 20,000 dollars (£15,000) and satellite communication equipment to the North Korean to attack Kim during a public event with a bio-chemical weapon.
