The German government will soon ban the North Korean embassy here from leasing out part of its building for profit in accordance with a latest United Nations resolution against the reclusive country's nuclear test, local news media reported Tuesday.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel's government is working on sanctions against North Korea in response to its nuclear threats.
The embassy also derives income from a conference hall at the site.
The resolution says: "All member countries shall prohibit North Korea to use real estate that it owns or leases for other than diplomatic or consular activities".
Located right next to the North Korean embassy, the Cityhostel Berlin is popular among travelers looking for low-priced accommodations in the city center.
North Korea has conducted several nuclear tests and launched missiles, provoking fears that it could one day hit Japan or the USA with a long-range nuclear strike.

And Timo Mensah, emergency like (against City) to help the team, strong legs, energy, but it's another one that we miss. So I think Mr Van Gaal left a good group of boys with very good relations between them, and that I got in my hands.
The new measures, drawn up by the Chancellery and three other ministries, aims to stop North Korea from operating the hostel and congress center on its embassy's premises in eastern Berlin as a source of foreign currency, the German Foreign Ministry said.
Reining in North Korea's regime has proven to be a vexing problem for policy makers.
It is a popular budget option for travellers to Berlin, who can stay in an eight-bed dormitory room for just €9.50 per night.
Markus Ederer, state secretary at the German Foreign Ministry, said "we must step up the pressure in order to bring North Korea back to the negotiating table". They may not be linked to North Korea as the hostel's website and social media accounts do not mention that the building is owned by the reclusive regime.
The resolution, passed after the regime conducted a nuclear test, is created to cut off outside funding sources.
