Manny Machado hit a three-run home run in the midst of a 5 run fourth inning that helped lead the Orioles to an 8-3 win over the Red Sox on Thursday night at Fenway Park.

Josh Rutledge drove in a pair of runs for Boston after entering the game in the first inning when starting third baseman Marco Hernandez left with a strained left shoulder.

It marked the latest incident in the growing rivalry between the Red Sox and Orioles.

Nobody else has received discipline since the feud began when Machado slid spikes-up into Dustin Pedroia on April 21.

After controversially spiking Boston star Dustin Pedroia on a late-game slide in Baltimore almost two weeks ago on April 22, Machado was thrown at by Red Sox ace Chris Sale on Tuesday.

After bringing up the Orioles and Red Sox unprompted toward the end of Saturday's media session, Harbaugh defended Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman, who was ejected Wednesday after hitting Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts with a pitch.

In the middle of it all, five-time All-Star Adam Jones was dealing with a situation when a Boston fan shouted a racial slur at him.

Red Sox: Farrell said knuckleballer Steven Wright, who was put on the disabled list Monday with a sprained left knee, is "contemplating the options that are available to him and "surgery's not ruled out.". Hughes gave up one run and six hits in 62/3 innings while striking out four in his deepest outing of the season for the Twins.

Two days after the slide, Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes threw a 90 miles per hour pitch behind Machado's head. But regardless of which direction the most heated active rivalry in the American League East goes from here, this much is clear: Machado will be the lightning rod, no pun intended, for all the nonsense, just as A-Rod was at the peak of the Red Sox-Yankees grudge matches a decade ago.

"It's a little different than a traditional stolen base, so it's really just a circumstantial thing where they said go if they throw at second, and I went", said Smith, who had not stolen a base since May 20, 2014.

Red Sox: Knuckleballer Steven Wright will have surgery to fix cartilage in his left knee and miss the rest of the season. RHP Tyler Thornburg (right shoulder impingement) was transferred to the 60-day DL.
