Microsoft today announced it is augmenting its data and cloud services offering with Azure Cosmos DB, a database service that the company says scales horizontally with guaranteed uptime, throughput and virtually no latency.
The software is being targeted at the education sector and is due to be released later this year.
According to a report from ZDNet, the information points to special requirements for Windows Store apps that applies exclusively to browsers and to which a ported version of Google Chrome would be unable to comply with. Microsoft hopes to spread Cortana far and wide by making it available to a number of third party device manufacturers. Both Lenovo and HP should launch new all-in-one Windows 10 PCs for the holiday season and the hardware should support features such as the new home screen or waking via Cortana voice commands. Codenamed Redstone 3, the next update will include features like pinning contacts to the task bar and a new power throttling option.
Perhaps the biggest change is Project Neon, the internal name for a design revamp that is expected to introduce a cleaner and more compelling look to Windows 10.
