The Amsterdam ArenA will be renamed the Johan Cruyff stadium as a homage to the memory of the Ajax and Netherlands excellent.
Amsterdam Arena is the home of AFC Ajax, who Cruyff led to three European Cups. The announcement was made late on Tuesday evening, what would have been Cruijff's 70th birthday.
"Jordi Cruyff (Johan's son) has stated that he was pleased and honoured by the letter of intent to change the name on behalf of the family".
A worthy tribute to the ex-Netherlands global had been discussed since his death on March 24 2016, and a package of agreements on the governance and ownership of the stadium has had to be agreed in order to change its name.
