HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - The long-awaited offspring of internet sensation April the Giraffe is being described as strong and "very independent".
Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch said that both mom and calf are doing fine.

Jordan Patch says he was so excited that he was shaking when he made the calls to assemble the delivery team. The event was livestreamed by approximately 1.2 million people after fans avidly watched for about two months prior in anticipation of the big day.
Patch said the natural curiosity surrounding giraffes and their birthing process was a huge factor in drawing crowds.
The privately owned zoo began livestreaming from April's enclosure in February.
The calf weighs in at 129 pounds (58.5 kilograms) and stands 5 feet 9 inches tall (1.75 meters).

The park only launched five years ago and is based in upstate NY. April's calf is the first one for Animal Adventure Park.
The wait for the giraffe became an anxiety-ridden experience for some.
What will April's giraffe be named?
The park is allowing people to submit and vote on names for 10 days.
Voting is a dollar each vote, with a minimum of five votes. Proceeds will go toward giraffe conservation, care of the giraffes at the park, and helping children with epilepsy.
The contest is being held for 10 days, and then a second round of voting, which will be narrowed down to the top 10 names, will be held for five days. The park promises to keep followers updated on the popular giraffe and plans to post plenty of photos. The mama giraffe tenderly licked her calf, which began to slowly pick its head up from the floor of the pen.
