Police said Muhammad starting shooting just hours after authorities announced he was wanted for the murder of a security guard shot and killed last Thursday night.
The suspect, identified as Kori Ali Muhammad, is also thought to be behind the shooting death of a security guard last week.

Muhammad had posted anti-government comments on social media and said that he disliked white people, police said.
"We believe this is exclusively based on race", he said.
Police had been looking for Muhammad in the Williams killing, and Muhammad said seeing his own name and picture in a press release Tuesday morning helped spur the rampage.
He fired at another person but missed before shooting dead a 37-year-old pedestrian carrying a bag of shopping.
Muhammad kept walking but ran into the arresting officer at Divisadero and shouted "Allah Akbar" as he was taken into custody Chief Dyer said he does not believe Tuesday's attack was related to terrorism but appears to be a hate crime since all the victims were white men. The women were Latina, he said.
"These individuals who were chosen today did not do anything to deserve what they got", Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

Police had put out a news release hours before the shootings Tuesday, saying that Muhammad was armed and risky and wanted over the shooting death of a security guard at a Motel 6 last week.
Williams, 25, was unarmed and was killed after allegedly getting into an altercation with Muhammad.
Police are searching for the revolver Muhammad said he threw into a pile of clothing.
Muhammad faces at least four counts of murder.
Stephen Hughes, 66, said he and his wife rushed home after receiving a frantic call from a neighbour. "It looks like a guy carrying his groceries home from the store", Hughes said.
"On what appeared to be Muhammad's Facebook page, he repeatedly posted "#LetBlackPeopleGo" and encouraged "black warriors" to "mount up". A flurry of posts emerged in the past day. He continued down Fulton Street, shooting and killing a pedestrian there, and then witnesses say he calmly reloaded at a nearby bus stop, before he set off to Catholic Charities on North Fulton Street in Fresno, where he encountered a man in the parking lot and killed him.
He has a criminal history that includes arrests on weapons, drugs and false imprisonment charges and making terror threats, police said. He had been associated with gangs. but he was not a confirmed member, police say.
He claimed insanity and his lawyer requested a psychiatric examination, saying Muhammad "appeared eccentric with some freakish beliefs".
