Even as Ossoff's chances of an outright win dwindled late Tuesday, his supporters continued dancing, celebrating and cheering him on. "We wanted to send a message that win or lose tonight, Trump is in trouble".
You just tweeted moments ago to Donald Trump, "thank you for the call this morning".
Of ballots cast Tuesday, he said 98,000 came from voters with Republican voting histories and 94,000 from historically Democratic voters.
"I am truly humbled by the faith and trust the people of Georgia's 6th District have placed in me", Handel said in a statement after the results were announced.
The outcome of Tuesday's special election in Georgia was remarkably similar to last week's tally in another special House election Kansas: the Democratic candidate dramatically overperformed November's results, but still fell short of actual victory.
"Dems failed in Kansas and are now failing in Georgia".
But Perez on Wednesday said Trump was celebrating too early, and the prevailing breezes still blew in Ossoff's direction for the June contest.
Republicans always take a sabbatical after they win the White House. It seems likely that the same will be said for scattered upcoming special elections in other states.
"Ultimately, the best driver of enthusiasm right now is letting Trump be Trump", said Jesse Ferguson, a veteran Democratic strategist. Trump has been tweeting against Ossoff during the campaign. "I think Republicans who voted for him are going to have to start thinking long and hard about country over party".
"We have a lot of wind at our back", Perez told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "New Day". "The progressive energy out there is palpable", he added.
This is the second loss in as many weeks for Democrats who have tried to make special elections a referendum on Trump's presidency.
The Patriots go to Washington - some of them, at least
Safety Devin McCourty, a team captain, told Time magazine : "Basic reason for me is I don't feel accepted in the White House". Just as a refresher, the Patriots' Super Bowl win was the only game all season where Brady's mom, Galynn, was able to attend.
For Democrats, Ossoff's near win encourages the opposition movement that has flourished since Trump's election. Trump won the Southern state by about 5 percentage points in November's election.
Meanwhile, Ossoff is celebrating his near victory.
Having already endured several million in attacks from national Republican outfits, Ossoff said he's ready for more.
Fox News' John Roberts wanted to know if Ossoff's strong showing in the election was a "wake-up call" to Republicans about the changing demographics, particularly in the South.
Ossoff has pitched himself as a check on Trump and an opponent to Washington gridlock. "They were clear going into this election that their goal was to get over 50 per cent, so they came up short", said Mr Spicer.
Fresh Democrat face set to lead national resurgence!
But other Republicans in the race wrapped their arms around Trump to a much greater extent.
Republicans have made their own attempts at nationalizing the campaign.
A political action committee backed by current Speaker Paul Ryan funneled more than $2 million into attacks on Ossoff, mostly tying him to national Democrats such as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. And that's a big contrast to the Democrat who doesn't even live in the district.
