The US man wanted for killing an elderly man in OH and then posting a video of the murder on Facebook fatally shot himself on Tuesday after a brief pursuit in neighbouring Pennsylvania, police said.
Pennsylvania state troopers say they spotted Stephens leaving a McDonald's restaurant in Erie after receiving a tip from a drive-thru attendant.
As officers approached his vehicle, Stephens shot himself, Pennsylvania state police said on Tuesday on Twitter and at a news conference.
For two days, authorities across the country scrambled to find Stephens, the man wanted for the death of Robert Godwin - a self-taught mechanic and grandfather of 14.
In his Facebook videos, the suspect had spoken of gambling debts and cited this and a failed relationship as his reasons for the killing.
CLEVELAND (AP) - Authorities in Cleveland leading a nationwide search for a man wanted in a random killing that was recorded and posted to Facebook are again appealing to the public for help.
He said authorities had received almost 400 tips to aid in the search for Stephens.
It was nearly lunchtime on Tuesday and authorities were in the third day of an intensive manhunt for Stephens, 37.
"We are grateful that this has ended", said Cleveland Division of Police Chief Calvin Williams.

The Indians second baseman hit a two-run homer, his fourth of the year, off of Hughes in the third inning for a 5-2 lead. The Twins , meanwhile, hadn't dealt with much adversity in a surprise start to their season.
Beech Brook, a behavioral health facility in a Cleveland suburb where Stephens had worked since 2008, said in a statement on Tuesday that Stephens had cleared an extensive background check.
"I forgive him because we are all sinners", Robby Miller, Godwin's son, said in an interview with CNN.
Facebook said it removed the video of the shooting 23 minutes after learning of it.
Owner Blake Frederick says suspect Steve Stephens visited Sherwin Shooting Sports within the past year. Frederick tells Cleveland.com he recalls Stephens as nice and jovial, not negative.
The video of the killing remained on Facebook for almost three hours.
The intersection is less than two miles from Pennsylvania State Police Troop E headquarters.
The 74-year-old former foundry worker and father of 10 was picking up aluminium cans on Sunday when he was gunned down in Cleveland.
The company has since announced it is launching a review for reporting harmful content.
