Facebook conference day 2: Still all about the camera

Several features were announced on the first day of it's annual developers conference, held in San Jose this year, that will compete with competitors. Usually there's much ooh-ing and aaaah-ing over whatever it is that Mark Zuckerberg introduces.

"The unique thing that we're going to do is we're not just going to build basic cameras, we're going to build the first mainstream augmented reality platform".

Afternoon sessions yesterday revealed several interlocking initiatives at the social-media giant, but most immediately front and center (to judge from CEO Mark Zuckerberg's keynote) may be augmented reality.

The possibilities for AR are only limited by a developer's imagination and there are plenty of ways in which the real world can be manipulated using this technology.

While there are more than 200 jobs now on the SOL, the government plans to cut at least 180 jobs from the list. A stand-alone English language test examining reading, writing and listening skills will also be introduced.

More partners for Facebook Workplace: Facebook has an enterprise version of its social network, called Workplace, that was launched last winter.

Since the Messenger Platform debuted a year ago, the ecosystem has more than 1.2 billion people, 100,000 developers and 100,000 monthly active bots, and two billion messages are sent between people and businesses on Messenger every month.

This Augmented Reality themed products will definitely affect smartphone companies. However, he also has predicted that the augmented-reality platform will soon be incorporated into eyeglasses as well.
