On Tuesday night, we got a little taste of what Cuban's Mavericks will do to stay in the spotlight as they concocted an attention grab that was half-baked in the act of honoring retiring Dallas Cowboy quarterback (and soon to be lead National Football League color analyst on CBS) Tony Romo.
Carlisle said before the game that Romo would not play, but if there is a legal way to get him in the game it would be quite the way to say goodbye to Dallas. "And that's not really what this is about".
I think he meant a lot for Dallas and for the sports scene here for a long, long time.
Archer speculates that "whenever Romo opts to officially retire, he could re-sign with the Cowboys in a ceremonial way and then be placed on the reserve/retired list".
Or, as Romo put it earlier in the day, "I look like a turtle out there". And Romo said that ultimately, his gut told him that being with Parcells, Payton and Jones was the right place for him to be. "I guess it just makes you feel like you've accomplished something in some ways, even though I feel like I left something out there that I always wanted to accomplish". Romo wasn't as fortunate to do it with the Dallas Cowboys, but they forged their relationship through a love of sport and competition.
Said Vaughn: "He seems like a cool guy, and he's a great quarterback".
"That includes the Finals", Carlisle said.

Going into the Flames/Ducks game last night, Edmundson was tied for the National Hockey League lead in playoff goals. Screened by David Perron during Schwartz's deep shot from the slot, the 6-foot-6 Dubnyk didn't see the puck.
Fans await the arrival of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on the court before an NBA basketball game between the Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks in Dallas, Tuesday, April 11, 2017. "It was not like he was going to play real minutes, you know?"
Beasley was among several Bucks who were thrilled for the 36-year-old Romo, who hasn't suited up for an organized basketball game since his high school days. Just to say thank you to Coach and everybody else. He played a series of brief one-on-one games with Dwight Powell, Harris and Nerlens Noel.
"Then, as I thought about it more, (Mavericks owner) Mark Cuban can do whatever he sees fit for his organization", Malone said.
Romo, who is 6-foot-2, got to experience the fraternity at the request of Cuban, Carlisle and future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki as Dallas closed out its home schedule against the Nuggets.
Former Maverick Quinn Cook interviewed Romo will the former was still playing college ball at Duke, and they played a friendly game of 1-on-1.
Many experts have a slight feeling that Tony Romo may fetch a call or two next season by a team (or teams) that need a quarterback, and Romo may just answer that call with "I'm on my way!"
