Colorado Judge Neil Gorsuch was sworn in as the associate Justice of the US Supreme Court, and took up the seat vacated by last year's death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Gorsuch, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, was administered the oath by Chief Justice John Roberts in a private ceremony in the Supreme Court Justice's Conference Room.
During 11 years on the federal appeals court in Denver, Gorsuch mirrored Scalia's originalist approach to the law, interpreting the Constitution according to the meaning understood by those who drafted it.
Justice Gorsuch, who once clerked for Justice Kennedy, will be the first member of the court to serve alongside his former boss.
It is the conclusion of a almost 14-month process to fill Scalia's seat, with Republicans winning a bitter battle to ensure his replacement was a like-minded disciple who will restore a conservative majority on the court for years to come.
And Trump, addressing the nomination fight from the Rose Garden, couldn't contain his excitement.
"The court's composition has changed significantly since then, so I think it will be interesting to see how the current court grapples with this question", she said.

North Korea has pledged to bolster its defenses to protect against such airstrikes. -China trade more balanced. It has conducted five nuclear tests -two since the beginning of last year-and scores of missile tests.
"We are here to celebrate history", Trump said. Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan were both sworn in publicly at the Supreme Court. "And I got it done in the first 100 days - that's even nice", Trump said. As if to reassure Kennedy, Trump's lawyers have mentioned several of his former law clerks as strong candidates for the next Supreme Court nomination. "That's sort of a big deal", he added. 'He said he was going to appoint a conservative, and that's exactly what he has done in selecting Judge Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court, ' Graham wrote on his Facebook page.
Gorsuch's confirmation process was a bitter battle in the Senate, as the opposition Democrats blamed the Republican majority for refusing to consider President Barack Obama's nomination to the court, Merrick Garland, previous year and accused Gorsuch of being "too extreme".
As I watched the incredible dignity of President Trump, Justice Anthony Kennedy, and now-Justice Gorsuch, I realized how 'President Trump has exceeded my expectations.
"Although he could not be here today, I especially want to express our gratitude to Senator Mitch McConnell for all he did to make this achievement possible", he said of the Kentucky senator, who stonewalled former President Barack Obama's nominee for the job, Merrick Garland.
This is an undertaking that no judge in many decades has taken seriously, as the Supreme Court has moved steadily to the right, particularly on issues involving property rights and the privileges of the super-rich, where 9-0 rulings are increasingly common. Another was taking notes when the justices met to deliberate on cases. On the list is a plea that the court decide whether the Second Amendment grants a right to carry firearms outside the home. Another asks whether businesses may refuse to provide wedding services to same-sex couples.
Gorsuch's first case on the court will be a high -profile religious-rights case concerning a Missouri law banning churches from getting public funds for aiding people.
