North Korea warns of 'war' in response to US Navy moves

That is, Trump says his hand would be forced (in a non-specific way) should China not assist in curtailing North Korea's behavior.

South Korea's acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn warned of "greater provocations" by North Korea and ordered the military to intensify monitoring and to ensure close communication with the US.

North Korea's patron, China, which supplies much of its food and fuel, would not look kindly on any such outcome, or on any military action by the United States.

"We'd like to ask precaution so as not to get blinded by exaggerated assessment about the security situation on the Korean Peninsula", defense Ministry spokesman Moon Sang-kyun said.

A top North Korea official stated Pyongyang intends to "relentlessly strengthen" the country's nuclear weapons during a meeting of North Korea's parliament commemorating Kim Jong Un's fifth year of rule.

Speculation over an imminent nuclear test is brewing as the North marks anniversaries including the 105th birthday of its late founding leader on Saturday - sometimes celebrated with a demonstration of military might.

Pyongyang's saber-rattling reflected heightened tensions amid the possibility of a sixth nuclear test or a ballistic missile launch by the North this month to coincide with major military and political events.

"We will take the toughest counteraction against the provocateurs in order to defend ourselves by powerful force of arms", they added. He has stated that China should take a larger role in pressuring the North Korean regime.
