Kyrgios leads Australia to Davis Cup triumph

Nick Kyrgios has defeated Sam Querrey to hand Australia a 3-1 win and put them into the Davis Cup semi-finals.

After being heckled in Miami against Roger Federer, Kyrgios was embraced by the crowd in Pat Rafter Arena as he built on Jordan Thompson's upset of Jack Sock by staving off Isner in three tense sets of high-quality tennis.

The Australian clinched the match in the fourth set by breaking Sock's service twice.

The victor moves on to play the victor between Italy and Belgium.

The last time Australia reached the last four of the Davis Cup was in 2015, when they lost 3-2 to Great Britain in Glasgow.

"I couldn't be prouder of my boys".

Now ranked No.16 in the world, Kyrgios has been one of the ATP Tour's form players over the last two months, beating Novak Djokovic twice and battling Roger Federer in a classic Miami Open semi-final, which has been described as one of the best non-grand slam matches ever seen.

The Americans had needed the victory to remain in the quarter-final tie after Jordan Thompson stunned Sock 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 and Nick Kyrgios eased past John Isner 7-5, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) in the opening singles on Friday.

I found out [I was playing] just the night before you guys.

Student loan interest to rocket to 6.1%
Not to mention the fact that many of our European neighbours don't charge their students for university at all. It's clear the system's broken when we're forced to pay even more than America's famously indebted students.

But the new-and-improved model of Australia's top-ranked player now chases harder, runs further and digs deeper than ever before.

France and Serbia sealed their progression prior to Sunday's matches so there was purely pride to play for in the final two singles matches.

"But [with coach] Lleyton (Hewitt) on the side, telling me to compete for every point, and obviously the crowd, it's easy to get up out here".

One win from the remaining three matches will deliver Australia, underdogs in pre-tie betting, a semi-final in September against either Belgium away or Italy in Australia.

Australia, captained by Lleyton Hewitt, will play either Belgium or Italy in the semi-finals.

"I just tried to wear him down, and I thought I was fit enough to do that", Thompson said.

"Hopefully we can close it out tomorrow, it's been an unbelievable day", Kyrgios said.

Courier said his team would rally around Sock and noted that his USA team had lost to Croatia previous year from two matches up after the first day. "I feel comfortable playing second". It was a surprise for me, but I was practicing really well.
