Neil Gorsuch on Monday became the 101st associate justice of the Supreme Court and President Trump's first high court appointee.
President Donald Trump watches as Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy administers the judicial oath to Judge Neil Gorsuch during a re-enactment in the Rose Garden of the White House White House in Washington, Monday.
Gorsuch took the constitutional oath earlier in the day in a closed-doors ceremony; the public ceremony will show his judicial oath.
Gorsuch was sworn in during a sun-soaked ceremony in the Rose Garden, almost 14 months after the seat was left vacant with the sudden death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Gorsuch has been a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, based in Denver. As the Times reports, Gorsuch tips the balance on the High Court towards conservatives on the bench, which could last more than 30 years - long after Trump has left office.
The lifetime appointment restores the court's half-century-old conservative majority. They also criticized the Republicans' refusal previous year to consider President Obama's nominee to replace Scalia - Merrick Garland of the District of Columbia Circuit Court.
And to the American people, Gorsuch said he was humbled by their trust.
The Senate confirmed Gorsuch last week after Republicans changed chamber rules to block the minority party from being able to filibuster.

Wells Fargo & Company (WFC) belongs to the "Financial" sector with an industry focus on "Money Center Banks", with Mr. The report said department heads such as Tolstedt were given power to run their divisions with little oversight.
The second ceremony at the White House had President Trump introducing Gorsuch and Justice Kennedy administering the oath set by federal law.
Trump called Gorsuch the "perfect choice" for the court. But Republicans, led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., refused to consider Garland in the Senate, arguing that the next president should choose the nominee.
During his confirmation hearings, Gorsuch said he would judge each case on its merit.
Justice Anthony Kennedy administered the oath to Gorsuch, his former law clerk.
In less than two weeks, the justices will take up a Missouri church's claim that the state is stepping on its religious freedom.
All the other members of the court were at the ceremony, including liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who called Trump "a faker" past year during the presidential campaign but later said she regretted the remark.
GOP members described Gorsuch as a highly qualified candidate who refuses to act as a legislator, instead ruling on the basis of a faithful adherence to the Constitution and law.
"I will never forget that to whom much is given, much is expected", he said. "Judge Gorsuch appears to believe that judges are constrained to enforce the text and original intent of constitutional provisions, and on all other matters should defer to democratically elected lawmakers - this heartens us, and alarms those who have relied on activist judges to impose their radical pro-abortion policies".
