A growing rift has spilled out into public view between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of NY, who has pushed back in the face of comments from the speaker that have widely been interpreted as hostile toward the four progressive freshmen Democrats known as "the squad" - Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of MA. He called those making the claims "ignorant" of racial history.
Ocasio-Cortez said Wednesday that Speaker Pelosi was not only "outright disrespectful" to the new lawmakers, but suggested the criticism was racist. "How dare he", Clay said.
The extreme left-wing freshman reacted to Pelosi's recurrent endeavors to control some of the members of her caucus.
They were among a larger group of Democrats who visited Texas border facilities last week and returned reporting overloaded, fetid facilities and said detained women spoke of being told to drink from toilets and eat unhealthy food.
"Cortez should treat Nancy Pelosi with respect".
She called Pelosi's comments "just outright disrespectful. the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color". Pelosi later caved to Republicans and allowed the House to pass the Senate version of the bill, which lacked numerous protections progressive Democrats had sought.
Harris and Ocasio-Cortez have also recently worked together. "I addressed that. I'm not going to be discussing it any further". The aide added that the "alienation" of the freshmen progressives has been a pattern and said, "unless you are a woman of color in that situation I don't think you can judge".
Though one wishes this needless distraction could conclude, and soon, so that the Democratic majority in the House could go about its business rather than publicly bickering, that, sadly, isn't likely to happen.

The conflict between Pelosi and the progressive wing of her caucus stems from a debate over a spending package for humanitarian relief on the southern USA border. Two members of the coalition are African American lawmakers who lived through segregation. He is again facing a challenger in the primary for 2020.
"Can we just talk about the issues we're dealing with?"
Those comments enraged moderates and members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
The bill that struck a divide between Rep. Pelosi and the freshmen representatives was about federal aid funding.
. He added, "They certainly seem hell bent to do to black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did [in] the 40s".Pelosi herself reportedly responded to AOC's charge during a closed door meeting on Capitol Hill. The hearing came as the number of families, children and other migrants entering the US from Mexico has surged above 100,000 monthly since March, overwhelming federal agencies' ability to detain them in sanitary conditions and highlighting the issue as the 2020 presidential and congressional campaigns are in their early stages.
He said by not toughening immigration laws, House Democrats have "created the very magnet" that attracts migrants to the us and said the chamber "cowardly sits in the corner, doing nothing" to address the problems that result.
First, Ocasio-Cortez has become a Twitter star through her own showboating and a weird alliance with right-wing media that would like to portray her as the poster lady for all Democrats.
