Liverpool centre-back Van Dijk has been the Premier League's stand-out performer this season and was crowned Professional Footballers' Association players' player of the year on Sunday.

The 27-year-old has transformed Liverpool's defence since joining from Southampton in January last year for a world record fee of £75 million (S$131.9m) for a defender.

Van Dijk has managed to bring out the best in his fellow defensive colleagues Alisson Becker, Joel Matip, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Joe Gomez.

Last season's European finalists Liverpool are fighting Manchester City for the Premier League title - a race set to go down to the wire - and Van Dijk added: "I see what we have".

It's clear to see the positive effect Van Dijk has had on Liverpool and his stats prove that the PFA Player of the Year award has certainly gone to the right man.

Parris won the award ahead of Arsenal and Netherlands striker Vivianne Miedema, who was named PFA Player of the Year over the weekend.

Fed sees no strong case for hiking or cutting rates
In March, the Fed had noted that headline inflation had declined but said this was "mostly as a result of lower energy prices". But he said: "We did see inflation running persistently below, then that's something the committee would be concerned about".

Which player do you think engages in the most banter on social media? Elsewhere the reds have also reached the Champions League semi-final.

The Reds will play the first leg of their semi-final away in Catalunya, before deciding the tie in front of their own fans in Anfield on May 7.

Van Dijk will come up against the five-time Ballon d'Or victor when Liverpool travel to Barcelona for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old England global came out on top from a young player shortlist which also included team-mate Silva, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bournemouth's David Brooks and West Ham's Declan Rice.

"I think he is the best player in the world", van Dijk said via The Guardian.

He could still end the season with a Premier League winner's medal as Liverpool now trail Manchester City by a single point with two matches remaining. Responding to these comments, the defender remained pretty level headed, as he said: "I'm very happy with how I'm performing at the moment, how consistently I'm performing, and that I'm fit as well. I think we've had an awesome year, especially with winning the league today".
