A total of 16 criminal charges against the Empire actor Jussie Smollett were dropped on Tuesday, surprising many people - including Chicago's mayor - and raising a series of questions as to what actually happened. Police paid for the hotel and the security.
Lausch, who grew up in Joliet, Illinois, worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Windy City from 1999 to 2010 and then as a partner at a private firm before being officially sworn into office in November 2017, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Police met with the men at the hotel, stopped at restaurants to get meals for them and drove the pair and their attorney to court, taking them into the courthouse through a back entrance to avoid the media, according to the reports. There's a sealed document, obviously.
FOP Vice President Martin Preib told the Chicago Sun-Times that the prosecutor's decision to drop all 17 charges againt Smollett was "highly, highly suspicious" and that the police who worked hard on the case deserve answers as to why prosecutors suddenly decided not to pursue it. He said his doubters would have believed him if he blamed Muslims. He told a detective that at least one of the attackers was white, according to Chicago police.
After using surveillance cameras and other methods, police identified the Osundairo brothers as suspects and learned that they had flown to Nigeria the same day as the reported attack.
It seems so. Fox Entertainment, which produces Empire said: "Jussie Smollett has always maintained his innocence and we are gratified that all charges against him have been dismissed".
The two brothers were initially drawn into the investigation after police released grainy images of two "persons of interest" in the area the night of the attack.
New 'Avengers: Endgame' posters confirm fate of popular characters
The Black Panther heroine's fate in the Snappening was unknown since, again, she wasn't seen either surviving or disappearing. Last May at a visit to his almamater, the University of Iowa, Joe Russo revealed that Valkyrie survived Thanos' attack .
And both the both the police superintendent and the mayor of Chicago harshly criticized Smollett during a press conference.
In late February, "Empire" show executives revealed that Smollett's character had been cut from the final two episodes of Season 5 amid the open investigation. He said his faith and community would not make him want to commit these alleged crimes.
However, as Glandian told Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos on Wednesday, "there is absolutely nothing to warrant" Emanuel's "not on the level" statement.
Tuesday, Senator and 2020 presidential candidate Kamala Harris also appeared on CNN, telling Wolf Blitzer that when it comes to the Smollett case she's just as befuddled as everyone else.
Yesterday, despite overwhelming evidence of Jussie Smollett's guilt, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office moved to end proceedings in the disgraced actor's case in exchange for a few hours of Smollett's "voluntary" community service and the forfeiture of a $10,000 bond.
Cook county prosecutors abruptly announced they would not prosecute Smollett.
In a statement, the state's attorney said its decision was an appropriate resolution to the case and it does not exonerate Smollett. And it feels like if I had said it was a Muslim, or a Mexican, or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me much more. "They're just going to throw him in stuff that he'll be forced to take because he'll need money".
