"Let me be clear: Ethiopian Airlines believes in Boeing".

Air Force General (Ret.) Darren McDew, former head of the U.S. Transportation Command, and Captain Lee Moak, former President of the Air Line Pilots Association, will serve as the interim co-chairs of the panel, pending the appointment of other members.

"In an effort to provide more certainty and avoid last minute flight disruptions, American has extended cancellations through April 24", the airline said in a statement. The carrier said it expects to cancel roughly 90 flights per day based on its April schedule, and that it was waiting on the FAA, the Department of Transportation and the National Transportation Safety Board, along with Boeing, before reintroducing the grounded planes.

Over the weekend, Boeing brought pilots and trainers to its 737 MAX facility in Renton, Wash., to discuss potential safety modifications to the plane and test out simulations of an MCAS problem scenario.

Questions remain about how much pilot error could have factored into the crash in Ethiopia, if any, as more information came to light about the doomed Lion Air crash during the renewed focus on Boeing's anti-stall software.

Weeks later, Boeing disclosed the existence of a new flight control system called MCAS, which can push the plane's nose downward in certain circumstances.

The CEO, however, had told The Associated Press this weekend that he thinks the warnings and extra training material from Boeing and US regulators "might not have been enough".

In October 2018, a crush of the same model crashed in Indonesia killing 189 people, while a crash in Ethiopia this months saw 157 people die, 36 of them being Kenyans.

On Saturday, teams from the three USA airlines that own 737 MAX jets joined a session in Renton reviewing a planned software upgrade.

The budget carrier will also use some of its bigger Boeing 787 Dreamliners to offset the effects of the grounding of its 18 MAX jets - about 11 percent of its fleet. Still, a flight that wasn't originally scheduled on a MAX plane might be canceled to cover for the rest of the fleet.

Each pilot using the flight simulator landed the plane safely, the person said. Customers also can request refunds if they don't want to rebook. The airline has idled 34 MAX aircraft and is making cancellations five days out. The manufacturer has plans to invite upwards of 200 pilots, regulators, and technicians to an informational session on the new system at its Washington state production facility.

In another blow to Boeing, France announced on Monday that Airbus had agreed to sell 300 aircraft to China Aviation Supplies Holding Company, including 290 A320 planes and 10 A350, in a deal worth about is 30 billion euros ($34 billion).

He said that while the airline was fully in support of the grounding of the B737-Max aircraft, its confidence in Boeing had never waned. The software fix had been in the works for months.
