US Sanctions Russian, Chinese Firms for Helping N.Korea Militarize

China said Wednesday that new U.S. sanctions targeting Chinese firms linked to North Korea "will not help" cooperation with Beijing in the nuclear crisis.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin declared that it was "unacceptable" for Chinese and Russian individuals and companies "to enable North Korea to generate income" for its weapons programs.

Military tensions between the United States and North Korea increased after President Donald Trump promised "fire and fury" in response to President Kim Jong-un's threats to fire missiles at Guam, a U.S. possession in the western Pacific.

The spokeswoman underlined that China has been fully implementing the UNSC resolutions, as well as other global commitments. While the two sides have maintained quiet diplomatic contacts in recent months, there has been scant sign that Pyongyang will oblige.

While North Korea has not conducted a missile launch since the United Nations action, Mr Kim has pushed ahead with developing his nuclear programme.

Tillerson broke off during remarks to reporters about the administration's strategy in Afghanistan to make an observation about the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. A recently-released propaganda video depicts North Korean missiles approaching the USA island territory, with captions warning Americans that "time is not on the us side".

South Korea and the United States technically remain still at war with North Korea, as the 1950-1953 Korean War ended with an armistice rather than a permanent peace treaty.

But the picture of a graveyard believed to be in Guam may be the most rattling in the video, given dictator Kim Jong Un's repeated threats to strike the USA territory with a missile. Experts warned Pyongyang could still go ahead with the missile launches. They target companies that have dealt in natural resources such as coal and minerals or engaged in financial transactions for North Korean interests.

The latest United States steps stopped short of targeting Chinese financial institutions dealing with North Korea, a step that would have greatly angered Beijing.

However, North Korea is the one that has been heightening tensions. U.S. "But I want to acknowledge the steps they've taken so far". They won't tell you that.

North Korea has described U.S. President Donald Trump as a leader who frequently tweets "weird articles of his ego-driven thoughts" and "spouts rubbish" to give his assistants a hard time.

The sanctions block those targeted from accessing much of the global financial system and freeze any assets they might hold in areas under USA jurisdiction.

They are accused of helping place North Korean workers overseas and helping Pyongyang evade global financial restrictions.
