Florida family discovers 6-foot-long boa living in attic for years

He believes that it was someone's pet at one point and got into their home from a tree branch that was hanging close to the house.

The boa probably called the place home for quite some time.

Over the past few months, Bob van der Herchen's son had a feeling something just wasn't right.

"He used to complain he'd hear sounds in the attic. I didn't think much of it, I thought maybe it was rats".

But his son didn't agree and told his father he thought it might be a snake.

They tried twice to remove the snake but failed, so mum Linda turned to Facebook for help, posting videos of it in action.

"Over the last couple of years, my wife said she heard sounds in the attic".

"It took three and a half minutes for this snake to move into that rafter space", he said. The snake made itself comfortable inside the van der Herchen's attic without anyone in the family noticing for at least two years.

Lampert identified the snake as a Colombian red tail boa and said while looking for it he also found a snake skin, indicating the snake had been above the homeowner's family room for reals.

Boa constrictors' average lifespan is 20 to 30 years, according to National Geographic, and can grow up to 13 feet long and weigh 100 pounds.

A more suitable home was found for the boa constrictor, according to WFLA.
