Killed in Anantnag firing incident identified as civilian

On Friday, forces personnel, as per a police spokesman, killed a newly-recruited local militant of Hizbul Mujahideen in an overnight gun battle while a civilian was also killed in the ensuing "crossfire" in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

During the firefight, both militants were killed, the official had said.

During the search operation, police said that militants fired on the search party, resulting in exchange of fire.

Sources said that the slain militant had joined militancy just ten days back.

During the encounter, one motorcycle-borne individual, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was found dead with bullet injuries, the officials said, expressing apprehension that he might have died in the crossfire. Cutoff party of army retaliated fire, " said the police spokesman.

The slain civilian was identified as Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat, son of Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Arwini Bijbehara. Meanwhile, in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday morning, two more militants were killed in state's Kulgam district. However, rail service from Srinagar to north Kashmir was running normally.

The trouble started at several places in the town, including Lal Chowk, Malakhnag, Chinni Chowk, Reshi Bazaar, Sherpora, Janglat Mandi and Achabal bus adda, when people, mostly youths hit the streets and started pelting stones on security forces deployed there.
