Ki'ari Pope was injured in March when when she drank boiling water on a dare from her cousin, reports the Daily Mail. Ki'ari - who played basketball for University Preparatory Academy and liked to dance - was due to see her doctor for another checkup Friday, Bonner said. The incision in her windpipe left her with chronic respiratory problems, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up to help the family pay for funeral arrangements. Kiari's mother said the 8-year-old was dared to drink the water by her cousin after they watched a video from YouTube.
The 29-year-old man went to find something and when he returned to Ki'ari's bedroom, he found her unresponsive and unconscious, according to the report.
"Lords know I haven't felt this (kind of) pain since my daddy died", the post reads.
Ki'ari Pope, 8, suffered medical problems since March when she burned her throat and mouth upon performing the dare, the Palm Beach Post reported. Ki'ari's mother declined to speak with the media Thursday evening.
Johnson described her niece as a "bright, spunky little girl".
At least one of those investigations - it is unclear which - yielded verified proof either of abuse or neglect. The boyfriend called 911, and responders took her to the hospital and tried to resuscitate her for 40 minutes before she was pronounced dead, records show.

According to the department, they received multiple reports involving the girl between 2009 and 2017 - five of them stemming from domestic violence allegations between the girl's mother and her partner.
DCF Secretary Mike Carroll released a statement on the child's death, saying in part, "We have opened a child death investigation to examine the circumstances surrounding her death and will deploy a Critical Incident Rapid Response Team to review all interactions this family has had with Florida's child welfare system".
Ki'ari's family is raising funds to pay for the girl's funeral, which is set for August 12.
'We will also continue to work closely with law enforcement to support their continued efforts'.
Records indicate Boynton Beach police were notified about the girl's death.
Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater says the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
