"The ink is just dry, and we've gone from the theoretical - no more theoretical".

There's no release date yet for the new Spawn movie, nor has MacFarlane said much else about what the story will involve.

Todd McFarlane has been teasing work on a new film based on his beloved Image Comics character Spawn for a very long time now. Film director Kevin Smith joined the creator for the announcement and expressed similar feelings of happiness at the news.

The film is said to be rated-R, with McFarlane having already written the first draft of the film.

The announcement originally came from McFarlane's Facebook page. We're not sure how McFarlane and Blum will be able to pull off "sentient giant capes" and "demonically infused hell armor" on minimal reserves of cash, but McFarlane certainly seems game to try. He revealed that he will be producing the movie in partnership with Blumhouse, and that he will also direct the film.

The Taliban controls several districts in Helmand, the largest Afghan province and a major poppy-growing region. The spokesman to the provincial governor, Omar Zawak, said the number of killed and injured was not yet clear.

Keeping in the spirit of a horror film over your typical superhero movie, McFarlane opted for Blumhouse Productions, famous for such hits as "Get Out" and "Insidious". He is known for reinventing the look of Spider-Man as well as co-creating the Venom character for Marvel Comics.

McFarlane's creation was adapted into an action-horror movie in 1997, which starred Arrow actor Michael Jai White in the titular role.

If you're unacquainted with the character: he's a former black ops agent, sent to Hell for his many killings, who makes a deal with a demon to return to his wife, only to discover she's moved on and he's been turned into a demonic superbeing.

No news on who might play Spawn in this new take.
