Atari Is Back With the New Ataribox

Subscribers to the Atari Newsletter were given a special treat today, when the company sent out a new release with fresh details and images of the upcoming new console, the Ataribox. The Ataribox simply had a name back then and a teaser video that suggested it could be a vintage console in line with Nintendo's NES Mini. There will be two versions of the Ataribox available: black/red and a wood edition, notes The Verge. Two versions of the console will be released - a version with a wooden front panel, and a black version with a red logo.

However, it's still unclear which Atari games will be making a comeback, or whether the company's more recent hit, Roller Coaster Tycoon, will be included as well. The new console will feature four USB ports, an SD card reader, HDMI port, and an Ethernet port. We'll update you with more information as we get it. There's still a lot of unknowns around the Ataribox but now fans have a little more information to work with.

Atari brought us classic games like Pacman, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros, Space Invaders and Pong. In turn, consumers around the world surprised Nintendo by purchasing the retro console at an unexpected rate, forcing the company to produce more consoles than it had planned to build.
