The White House announced Saturday that President Donald Trump has appointed former federal prosecutor Ty Cobb as White House special counsel.
According to the ABC, it will work in coordination with private attorneys in charge of defending the u.s. president in the scandal of the involvement of Russian in the us presidential election, and suspicions of complicity with Moscow. A week ago it was revealed the Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr. met with Kremlin-aligned figures in June 2016-a meeting attended by then-campaign chair Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, the President's son-in-law and a top adviser.
Cobb is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the White House statement said.
Another blow for Trump, Russia
Homeland said Veselnitskaya first got her immigration parole letter on September 25, 2015 and it was last used in February 2016. Donald Trump Jr. did not disclose Akhmetshin's presence in statements and emails he released on the meeting earlier this week.
For weeks, Donald McGahn II, the White House counsel, has been urging Trump to bolster his in-house team with a seasoned lawyer to help deal with an expected flood of document requests from the Justice Department's special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III. Kasowitz commutes from his home in New York City and has been unable to give the president the seven-day-a-week commitment he requires as the investigation consumes a greater percentage of his time, aides said. Others on the Russia-response team include lawyer Jay Sekulow, a frequent TV surrogate for Trump, and Mark Corallo, a public relations consultant. She will hand over representation on matters related to the Russian Federation investigation to another powerful Democratic lawyer, Abbe D. Lowell.
Cobb will coordinate with Trump's outside lawyer Marc Kasowitz, who is representing the president in connection to the Russian Federation probe, according to ABC News. Though Trump Jr. initially said the two mainly discussed adoption of Russian children, it was reported that he had been promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton - that emails released by Trump Jr. showed he knew would be coming from the Russian government.
