Pre-race favourite Richie Porte of Australia has suffered a heavy crash in a descent during the ninth stage of the Tour de France.

Last year's runner-up Romain Bardet of France pedalled away in the final descent but was reined in by Froome, Uran, Barguil, Aru and his Astana team mate Jakob Fuglsang two km from the finish line.

But once the result of the photo finish came in, Barguil had another reason to cry: Uran was adjudged to have won by a whisker, and instead it was the 30-year-old Colombian who was left to celebrate a first Tour stage win of his career.

Froome finished third to maintain his challenge for the overall victory.

RICHIE PORTE has abandoned the Tour de France after this brutal crash on stage nine.

The Australian was travelling at 72.5km/h when he ran onto the grass on the inside of a corner, hit the deck and then slid across the road into an embankment, collecting Irishman Dan Martin of Quick-Step Floors as he went.

Thomas started the day 12 seconds adrift of Team Sky team-mate Froome in second spot in the GC standings, but his race was ended when he damaged his shoulder in a fall.

"I had a mechanical problem with my gears, I had to change bike", Froome.

BMC said Porte had suffered a fractured collarbone and a fractured pelvis, both non-displaced, adding that the injuries would not require surgery and would normally require four to six weeks' recovery.

Zeliang stakes claim to form government
In February, nearly the same set of legislators had isolated themselves from Zeliang, and gone to a resort near Kaziranga. It has been confirmed that Zeliang has 34 NPF legislators out of 47 and seven Independent members supporting him.

"I just had a bit of a wobble on a switchback", he said.

"I'm just grateful for that group waiting up".

Earlier this season the Welshman had to leave the Giro d'Italia early after a crash involving a race moto.

Three-times podium finisher Nairo Quintana of Colombia also struggled, losing 1:15 to Froome and his group.

Martin dropped from fourth to sixth overall, one minute 44 seconds down, 18 seconds ahead of Bury-born Yates who retains the white jersey as the best young rider. We've won three stages.

The two-times Tour victor Alberto Contador also hit the deck as he fell on the ascent of the Grand Colombier, but the Spaniard was quickly back on his way with a push from spectators.

"Later, I was told by radio that Froome had to stop because of a mechanical".

"Team doctor Jimmy [Juan Mercadel] said he thought it was broken but I got back on the bike and carried on down the descent, but when I got on the flat I knew something was wrong".
