South Korean and Japanese warplanes as well as US F-16 fighters joined the U.S. bombers for parts of Friday's mission, during which the bombers used inert weapons to practice attacks on a South Korea firing range. "If called upon, we are trained, equipped and ready to unleash the full lethal capability of our allied air forces".

The 10-hour mission came three days after North Korea tested an intercontinental ballistic missile on the Fourth of July, America's Independence Day.

United States commanders said the mission, part of which took place near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating North and South Korea, was to show force to Seoul's neighbor and demonstrate "the ironclad USA commitment to our allies", according to AP.

In response, US and South Korean soldiers fired ballistic missiles simultaneously in a drill Wednesday, simulating an attack on the North's leadership "as a strong message of warning", the South's military said at the time. He added both the USA and South Korea are prepared "to use the full range of capabilities to defend and to preserve the security of the Korean Peninsula and region".

Moon said he was also elected president thanks to what he called a "candlelight revolution", referring to a wave of candlelight rallies that led to the ouster of former South Korean President Park Geun-hye for corruption.

Moon said that Canada, the USA and South Korea should work closely together for the release of those detained in the North. Moon also noted that Trudeau's late father, former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, did a lot of work for the world when he was in office.

The US State Department also refused to cancel the upcoming US-South Korea drills, arguing they do not compare to North Korea's missile and nuclear tests.
