A DAY after the CBI conducted multiple searches against RJD leader Lalu Prasad and his family, the ED on Saturday raided three premises in Delhi of his MP daughter Misa Bharti and sonin-law in a money laundering case. Three properties linked to Misa were raided by Enforcement Directorate, followed by hours-long questioning with the former and her husband Shailesh.

The raid comes a day after the CBI conducted searches at residences and premises linked to Lalu Yadav and his family in connection with alleged irregularities in leasing out railway hotels at Ranchi and Puri to a private party.

Lalu denied the charges and dubbed the CBI raids a political conspiracy done at the behest of the BJP-led central government.

One of the firms that the arrested duo dealt with was M/s Mishail Printers and Packers Private Limited.

The sleuths also reportedly questioned Shailesh in the case connected to a wider money laundering probe against two brothers, Surendra and Virendra Jain, who were arrested in March for allegedly using shell companies to legitimise slush funds for others. Further probe indicated that companies floated by the Jain brothers had suspicious transactions with Mishail Packers, and the money so moved may have been used to buy farmhouses, ED sources said. He is allegedly linked to Bharti, who provided accommodation entries (black funds) of about Rs 60 lakh to M/s Mishail Printers and Packers Private Limited. "Ltd in Bijwasan area (all in Delhi)", an Enforcement Directorate (ED) official said.

The agency said it was detected that 1,20,000 shares of M/s Mishail Printers and Packers Private Limited were bought during 2007-08 at a rate of Rs 100 per share by four shell companies - M/s Shalini Holdings Limited, M/s Ad-Fin Capital Services (India) Pvt. Ltd, M/s Mani Mala Delhi Properties Pvt. Ltd. and Diamond Vinimay Pvt. Ltd.

The Serious Fraud Investigating Office (SFIO) had filed a criminal complaint against the Jain Brothers in Delhi's Tis Hazari Courts.

Jain Brothers also disclosed that their modus operandi was to receive cash in advance from the beneficiaries and invest as share premium and subsequently selling these shares at a huge discount to the directors/close relatives of beneficiaries.

Officials said Bharti's firm was registered at Tughlaq Road until the shares were bought back. The income-tax department has attached a total of 12 plots of Misa Bharti and her husband Shailesh Kumar, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav and ex-chief minister Rabri Devi, and her sisters Ragini and Chanda Yadav.
