Wales are on third with 8 points.

Ramsey has been involved in five goals in his last six worldwide appearances, scoring twice and assisting on three, to prove what an important player he is for Wales.

Serbia grew into the contest in-front of their expectant supporters. Allen drove through the midfield and slid a ball through for Ramsey on the right side of the box, but he was denied by Vladmir Stojkovic who made a crucial save with his legs at the near post. From the resultant free-kick Luka Milivojevic was penalised for pulling Sam Vokes's shirt and Ramsey, with a delightful dink into the corner of the net, did the rest.

Aaron Ramsey stepped up scored with a Panenka penalty in the same stadium and at the same end where it was first done by Antonín Panenka in 1976.

Serbia had a penalty claim of their own waved away by Portuguese referee Manuel De Sousa when the ball struck a Welsh arm early in the second half as the home team struggled against a packed and well organised visiting defence.

The signs were ominous for Wales when Aleksandar Kolarov curled a free-kick inches wide but Vokes nearly snatched a second with his head moments later. While spirits were fairly low in the Republic of Ireland because of the lacklustre performance of the national team, they were raised to as high as moderately. eh, grand levels as fans agreed that the 1-1 draw in Belgrade was probably the best they could have hoped for.

Wales' run of draws continues then, as they played out a fifth straight stalemate in qualifying.

David Edwards could have put Wales ahead in the first three minutes but he headed Joe Ledley's corner wide of the target. Last campaign we saw them out but that's where we are. "We have to stand up to them and not go away with our tails between our legs".

"We're all about resilience and we see it as a chance to tackle that challenge and we're confident that we've still got enough in our squad to go out there and get a result".

"For us this is one of the most important games in the last couple of years", said Ivanovic, one of several Serbians with extensive experience of the Premier League. "One hundred per cent".
