"I watched him a lot in college when he was at UConn", Monk said, "and modeled some of my stuff after his game".
"I know it's going to be tough to change a team, but for me I wanted to come in and be able to affect the game right away", Fox said. "Maybe tomorrow I'll believe it". "I think (Briscoe is) going to be fine, people are looking at him now and saying, 'wow, he is better than we thought'". And in a game of 1-on-1 between Monk and Jordan, the incoming rookie likes his chances.
"I'm going to learn", he said after being picked by the Charlotte Hornets with the 11th pick of Thursday's NBA Draft. Hailed as arguably the top perimeter shooter in the draft, he shot 40 percent (104-262) from beyond the 3-point arc and 82 percent at the free-throw line.
It's hard to imagine a scenario in which Monk turns into a bust for the Charlotte Hornets, the team that took him at No. 11. He also said that "I can shoot the ball pretty good".
Monk raised his stock with a 47-point performance on eight 3-pointers against eventual national champion North Carolina last December.
A Consensus Second Team All-American, Monk averaged 19.8 points per game last season and hit an SEC-leading 104 3-pointers, the third most in Kentucky history and the second most by a United Kingdom freshman. The list is highlighted by Markelle Fultz, who is widely regarded as the best player available and will go No. 1 overall to the Philadelphia 76ers. He is expected to work into the rotation as a backup to Nicolas Batum.
The slight fall didn't seem to bother Monk much. ESPN analyst Jay Bilas called Monk the best shooter in this draft class. "This has been my dream forever, and nobody ever from my hometown (of Lepanto, Arkansas) has been drafted".
Monk was the second of three Kentucky players to be chosen among the first 14 selections on Thursday night.
