There is a new street outside Fenway Park - David Ortiz Drive - and it says that the illustrious designated hitter will always have a home in Boston, said Tom Werner, chairman of the Boston Red Sox. Ortiz's No. 34 will be retired in a ce.

The one and only David Ortiz now has a street named in his honor in Boston. In 2016 Logan Airport named the Gate 34C as David Ortiz's gate.

The Boston Red Sox are set to retire former slugger David Ortiz's number in a special ceremony at Fenway Park on Friday night. Yawkee Way Extension was an off-shoot of Yawkee Way, the street where Fenway Park is located.

Ortiz belted 483 career homers with the Red Sox, a total that trails only Williams (521) on the franchise's all-time list.

"David Ortiz is a legend on and off the field", Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said Thursday."This city means a lot to me", Ortiz said. "This city got me to where I am".

Though Ortiz is retired, his name will remain linked with the stadium for years to come.

His late-inning heroics helped the Red Sox rally from a 3-0 deficit in the 2004 ALCS and win their first World Series in 86 years.

But most importantly, he is also remembered for rallying the city after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, when he grabbed a microphone on the Fenway mound and declared, "This is our (expletive) city".
