Daniel Day-Lewis is done with acting

The Lincoln actor Daniel Day-Lewis announced through his official spokesperson that he would be retiring from acting after his upcoming film Phantom Thread.

Day-Lewis' final and most recent win came in 2012 for his presidential role in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. He will close out his active career with Paul Thomas Anderson's 1950s London fashion industry flick Phantom Thread, which is set for release later this year. "He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years", says a statement from his spokeswoman Leslee Dart.

The 60-year-old actor, who has starred in countless award-winning films, has graced our screens for over forty years.

Day-Lewis' film resume includes My Left Foot, Last of the Mohicans, The Age of Innocence, There Will Be Blood, Gangs of NY, and Lincoln. According to Dart, Day-Lewis will still participate in the promotion for the film, which may be an award contender.

He also said that the chief minister met farmers' leaders on June 4 and assured that their problems will be resolved. However, farmers' association said that at least eight protesters were killed when the police opened fire at them.

This is not the first time Day-Lewis has retreated from films.

She did not share a reason for Day-Lewis's decision.

Day-Lewis, who is married to writer-director Rebecca Miller with three children, broke through with 1985's "My Beautiful Laundrette", by Stephen Frears.

In the late '90s and early aughts he appeared to give up acting for a while, reportedly working as a cobbler before Martin Scorsese convinced him to return to the screen for Gangs of NY.
