Kidambi Srikanth defeated World No. 1 Son Wan Ho 15-21, 21-13, 21-13 to advance to the quarter-final stage of the series.

This is the second time in two weeks that Srikanth has defeated Wan Ho, after prevailing over him in Indonesia Open.

Srikanth needed just 27 minutes to trounce his opponent in straight games 21-13, 21-16.

ISIS Destroys Historic Mosque In Mosul As Iraqi Forces Close In
Al-Hadba minaret, a treasured landmark in Mosul, was nicknamed the hunchback by Iraqis because of its precarious tilt. The IS blew up the mosque during the celebrations of Laylat al Qadr, the holiest night of the year for Muslims.

After losing the first game, the 24-year-old Indian rebounded strongly to clinch a 15-21, 21-13, 21-13 win over Wan Ho in a gruelling second-round clash that lasted nearly an hour. In the Singapore Open final, Srikanth was guilty of squandering a 7-2 lead in the second game and employing the smash too often, but appeared to improve on some of his weaknesses in his run to the title in Indonesia. Srikanth and Sai Praneeth register hard-fought wins in their second round matches to set up and all-Indian men's singles quarterfinal clash.

Praneeth cemented his place in the quarter-finals of the tournament after brushing aside China's Huang Yuxiang 21-15, 18-21, 21-13 in his men's singles clash that lasted one hour and five minutes.

The women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and Sikki Reddy however, lost 21-18, 18-21, 13-21 to Koharu Yonemoto and Shiho Tanaka of Japan.

It will be a battle of the two Indians in the Australian Open Super Series quarter-finals as Srikanth goes up against Praneeth.
