Recall issued for hummus sold at Walmart

House of Thaller says ingredient supplier HVF notified them of a recall involving its roasted pine nuts.

House of Thaller, a Knoxville company that makes prepared food products, has issued a voluntary recall of select packages of its 10-ounce containers of Hummus with pine nut topping.

The Tennessee company distributed the Marketside, Lantana and Fresh Foods Market branded hummus to various grocery retailers from April to June, including Walmart and Giant Eagle, nationwide in the USA, and on April 20 in Canada.

Multiple brands of hummus sold at Walmart and other stores have been recalled because of potential contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The lot code includes a "use by" date, followed by a "W" and seven digits.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of listeria infection include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, fever and muscle aches. Pine Nuts, Lantana White Bean Hummus with Pine Nuts, and Marketside Classic Hummus with Pine Nuts.

Customers who bought these products should not consume them.

The Fresh Foods Market brand has a clear lid edge, the Lantana brand has a white or beige striped lid edge, and the Marketside brand has a solid black lid edge.
