Man tasered after attacking people with shoe horn at London mosque

A man suspected of attacking worshippers at a mosque in central London has been Tasered by police at a time of heightened tension following the terrorist attack in Finsbury Park.

Around 1:20 am, the police were called in and found a man waving an item which happened to be a shoe horn taken from the mosque.

In the aftermath of the Finsbury Park mosque attack, members of the Muslim community told IBTimes UK they live in fear "every day" due to what they see as a rise in Islamophobia in London.

Police are not linking it to terrorism.

"Officers are keeping an open mind regarding any motivation for the incident", the force said in a statement.

He further added that there were no reports of anyone being injured.

Nine people were taken to three London hospitals and two were treated at the scene.

The attack unfolded as a man who had been taken ill was receiving first aid from the public near the mosque, where people had been saying Ramadan night prayers. It is not clear if his death was related to the attack.

Darren Osborne, a 47-year-old father-of-four from Cardiff, Wales, is being held by police, suspected of ploughed a white hire van into a group of Muslim worshippers.

There were no reports of any injuries and the police are not considering the matter as terrorism related.
