The M's kick off a week-long home stand with a four-game series against the Detroit Tigers Monday night.

In the 10th, Nelson Cruz walked to open the inning.

And the Mariners had their third straight victory.

"That was the pitch he needed to get on and he didn't miss it", Seattle manager Scott Servais said.

Kinsler hit Miranda's third pitch of the game into the first row of the second deck down the left-field line.

And the Mariners let scoring opportunities slip away in the eighth and ninth innings before breaking through in the 10th inning.

"He threw pretty well", Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. Getting toward the end I was pretty gassed. "That's a tough day to match".

After the hot start, the offenses stagnated until the seventh inning, when Gamel ended a nine-pitch at bat against reliever Daniel Stumpf by getting into a 93 miles per hour fastball, sending it just past the end of the grandstand in right center for his third home run of the season.

Seager's game-winner came on the next pitch. The Tigers managed only six hits in the 9-1 defeat Sunday, with Alex Avila and Dixon Machado notching two apiece.

"He fouled off a bunch of pitches".

The Mariners led 4-2, which is the margin that Altavilla inherited from starter Ariel Miranda to start the eighth. He pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning but couldn't get through the fifth unscathed.

Altavilla's pitch was in the dirt and skipped toward the Detroit dugout down the third-base line, allowing Kinsler to score all the way from second.

The Tigers tied it in the second as Justin Upton led off the inning with a 411-foot homer to center field, his 14th of the season. "Everything else was down".

Saudi Arabia has said all camels and sheep owned by Qataris must leave its pastureland, in a growing row between Qatar and other Gulf states.

The Tigers tied the score at 4-4 with two runs in the eighth off Mariners reliever Dan Altavilla.

Heredia's homer was his fifth of the season and the only major mistake by starter Anibal Sanchez.

The Mariners answered with two runs late in the inning. Gamel went to third on Robinson Cano's fly to center before Cruz lined a two-run double into the left-center gap. "But taking the next step in leading the pitching staff was huge".

Pazos (2-1) entered with one out and the bases loaded. It was a good game from both sides.

Zimmerman went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits.

Four Seattle relievers combined to hold Detroit to two hits over the final four innings.

The Tigers have now lost seven times in their 10 games.

MINUS: Altavilla had a second straight rough outing. Paxton was battered for seven runs over 3 2/3 innings in his last start against Texas. Danny Valencia and Jarrod Dyson were also hitless in four at-bats.

Sanchez will be summoned from Triple-A Toledo to make his first start of the season.

NOTES: Mariners RF Ben Gamel extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a third-inning single. He's in the zone a long time, and he's on plane.

SHORT HOPS: Second-round pick Sam Carlson, a right-handed pitcher from Burnsville (Minn.) High School, is expected to spend today at Safeco Field in negotiations on a signing bonus...the Mariners have four walk-off victories... Hicks was 0-for-15 with eight strikeouts in this ballpark before that at-bat.

It was a game dominated by home runs, including Ian Kinsler's 44th career leadoff homer on the third pitch of the game. Miranda is 7-1 with a 2.62 ERA in his Mariners career at Safeco Field.

The game can be seen on Root Sports Northwest and heard on 710 ESPN and the Mariners Radio Network.
