Prime Minister Narendra Modi's choice for his President candidate is now Bihar Governor and former BJP MP Ram Nath Kovind, 71 that journalists and party members are hailing as a "masterstroke". "Heartiest congratulations to Shri #RamNathKovind ji on his nomination as our candidate for the office of President of India", she tweeted.
The NDA, including Sena and the PDP of Jammu and Kashmir, which also extended support to Kovind on Tuesday, commands the support of 48.93 per cent in the electoral college made up of MPs and MLAs.
Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena on Tuesday announced its support for Ram Nath Kovind, the NDA picked candidate in the Presidential Elections 2017.
President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted the resignation, a communiqué issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on June 20. And instead prefer a candidate who has worked under them at some point or the other, and hence remains beholden for the post. "He may make his notice here and there, but in the end we are Hindutva brothers and we will stay together", Swamy told ANI. However, the opposition will be sitting for a meeting to collectively decide if they support the chosen candidate.
Kovind before leaving for New Delhi yesterday met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked the people of Bihar for their support.
Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury said Kovind "was chief of the RSS's Dalit branch" and "somewhere it was a political fight or contest".

"In turn, I suggested him two names which he said the BJP will consider", Thackeray said referring to Shah's meeting with him on Sunday.
He said he congratulated Kovind on his nomination.
Besides, nearly all other BJP allies have announced their support to Kovind with LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan calling it a "political masterstroke".
