He is in a coma for unexplained reasons.
Otto Warmbier (WORM'-bir), whose parents say is in a coma, arrived at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center late Tuesday night.
Hours after Rodman arrived in the capital, North Korea released 22-year-old USA student Otto Warmbier from a 15-year sentence of hard labour.
Last week, North Korean officials told Yun about Warmbier's medical condition. 'We learned of this only one week ago.
We said, at the time of Mr. Warmbier's arrest and conviction, that North Korea has a history of obtaining global prisoners who later can be used as political bargaining chips.
"It wasn't a situation where they asked", the official said of the USA representatives.
Numerous U.S. officials, however, are questioning North Korea's narrative.
"Out of respect for the privacy of Mr. Warmbier and his family", said Tillerson, "we have no further comment".
Department of State spokeswoman Heather Nauert told reporters Rodman had nothing to do with Warmbier's release.
She was feeling "sick to my stomach for them", she said, thinking of how their son should have been graduating from college this spring. "But I am not going to characterize what their son may have been through or may not have been through, so I'm just going to have to refer you to the family right now".
The BBC's Stephen Evans in Seoul says it remains to be seen if Mr Warmbier's illness is the direct result of brutality in prison.
"In no uncertain terms North Korea must explain the causes of his coma", Bill Richardson, a veteran former diplomat and politician who has played a role in past negotiations with North Korea, said in a statement after speaking to Warmbier's parents. Yun and an American delegation traveled to Pyongyang on June 12 and demanded to visit Warmbier and his release on humanitarian grounds.
Bayern are not going to fight for Ronaldo
Sky Sports is reporting that the Portuguese global is interested in the possibility of a move back to Old Trafford this summer. Ronaldo has reportedly told Real Madrid he wants to leave, prompting speculation over which clubs could sign him.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they continue to battle for Otto's life". On the same trip, he suggested an American missionary was at fault for his own imprisonment in North Korea, remarks for which he later apologized.
Sen. Rob Portman of OH said in a statement that Tillerson had confirmed to him Warmbier's release.
He, added: "North Korea should be universally condemned for its abhorrent behaviour".
The last time Rodman visited North Korea, he delighted the country's young ruler with a rendition of "Happy Birthday", suffered an angry meltdown on CNN while defending his trip, and spent time at a rehab facility.
Three weeks later, North Korea announced it was holding him for a "hostile act" against the state.
Warmbier would have graduated in May.
Regardless of how Warmbier's coma began, his prognosis could be grim, given that he has been in a state of unconsciousness for approximately a year.
A small group of family friends was nearby to celebrate Warmbier's arrival, cheering and holding signs that read "Pray for Otto" and "Welcome home Otto".
He had not been seen in public since, and Swedish diplomats, representing US interests, had been denied consular access to him.
After the Swedish diplomats met with the detained Americans, the North Koreans urgently asked to have a meeting with the U.S.in NY.
