Wanderer Koepka finds home at Open

In the process, he equalled the lowest 72-hole total in the tournament's history, set by Rory McIlroy at Congressional in 2011, and closed with a round of 67 for a four-shot victory, the lowest final round by a US Open champion since Tiger Woods at Pebble Beach in 2000. "I'll try and beat him next time".

Like Harman, Thomas couldn't match Koepka's final-round mastery, which came on Father's Day. "I played two good rounds, but it wasn't enough".

He hit a good putt on No. 2 that got caught the left edge of the cup and spun out, and settled for bogey.

"I felt like this was the lowest I could have shot", he said of his disappointing score. "So when you get to Saturday and Sunday, you've got to see how you react and how you feel".

The others included recent Wells Fargo victor Brian Harman, who led Koepka by one as Sunday began and took a winding way to a 72 and 12 under; the fourth-ranked player in the world, Hideki Matsuyama, whose 66 carried him from 14th place to second at 12 under; and neophyte Tommy Fleetwood, an Englishman who had played seven previous majors and missed six cuts and whose 72 left him at 11 under.

"It's going to be a really cool day for someone tomorrow", said Fowler, who has posted six top-10 finishes in majors during his career, including a second place finish at the 2014 US Open.

He birdied two of the next three holes following his bogeys on Nos.

Brooks Koepka may be known for mashing drives like American League MVP Mike Trout, but it was his shortest club that separated him from the field on Sunday's back nine. Was 5-under the round of the day, him and Hideki, I guess?

"Had a couple get away from me today, but at the same time, I can't take anything away from how well (Koepka) played".

Players are on the course for the final round of the U.S. Open in blustery conditions at Erin Hills.

The Muslim Council of Britain called the incident a " terror attack " and the "most violent manifestation" of Islamophobia. Witness Hussain Ali, 28, told the Press Association that "the leader of the mosque said 'You do not touch him".

But in the end, a four-hole stretch of par and three birdies made Koepka a household name.

There was one last ovation as he walked off the 18th green after putting for par in the first Open to be held in Wisconsin.

"I saw I could have a two-shot lead if I made that".

"Obviously the wind picked up, and I felt like that played right in my hand", said Koepka. "I know that inside myself". It might have been just if he parred it. I just tried to stay away from it. "He went and won the golf tournament on the back nine", Harman said.

Having eagled the first hole, Casey recovered from a bogey on the tenth to card three birdies in the next eight holes. And some of the places I went to were pretty neat. I just want to go home. I mean, it was still, I mean, 12-under, 11-under was still leading the tournament at one back.

Koepka settled for a tap-in par, but that didn't matter. I don't think anyone out here is.

GOOD SHOTI learnt a lot this week.

"That was kind of the changing point of the round for me", he said.

The par save led into the run of birdies, a giant silver trophy and a hefty paycheck.

"We started out this year and I thought I needed to win multiple times and a major", Koepka said.
