The defense may rest its case Monday in the murder trial of a man accused of killing a 2-year-old girl whose body washed up on a Boston Harbor island.
McCarthy was accused of killing 2-year-old Bella Bond in 2015, the daughter of his former girlfriend Rachelle Bond. "You know that", Shapiro said.
Jonathan Shapiro, McCarthy's defense attorney, told jurors that Bond killed the child.

McCarthy's defense team claims Rachelle Bond, Bella's mother, is the real killer and told police her daughter was with family members in the months after she was killed. In the interview, McCarthy denied responsibility for the child's death.
Shapiro said she told that story while McCarthy was in the hospital, so that he wouldn't be able to defend himself.

After the president's health care remarks, he continued his whirlwind trip by visiting Waukesha County Technical College. Apprenticeship and job training programs have been viewed by some as a potential way to address the problem.
"Each of the forensic scientists testified that he or she didn't find anything that connected Mr. McCarthy and this crime, " Shapiro said.
He mentioned how McCarthy wrote about Bella in the present tense in texts-because, Shapiro said, he believed Bella was still alive in DCF custody as Rachelle told him.
Sanders late yesterday cleared the way for jurors to convict Bella "Baby Doe" Bond's alleged murderer of involuntary manslaughter - a lesser charge that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years - if they are unable to agree on a murder verdict. Her body washed ashore on Deer Island in a plastic bag.
After 15 days of testimony, the defense rested its case on Monday morning - without Michael McCarthy taking the stand.
Those who testified in the trial were not able to sit in the gallery during proceedings for the last few weeks-but with testimony over, many of them were in court for the closing arguments Tuesday.
During the course of the trial, 169 pieces of evidence were introduced, and 34 witnesses testified.
