Brexit Secretary David Davis targeting a 'deal like no other in history'

In a sign of the progress that has been made, Mr Davis said the Prime Minister would brief fellow European Union leaders at a summit on Thursday on the UK's approach to the rights of expatriate citizens, which will be set out in detail in a paper on Monday.

DAVID Davis and Michel Barnier have kicked off the Brexit negotiations this morning with a historic handshake in Brussels.

The Mechanical Engineering Industry Association, known by its German initials VDMA, says that that goal of the two-year negotiating process is "damage limitation" because Brexit won't benefit either side.

In a notice circulated to staff and posted online today, the EU's HR departments also advises staff to turn the lights off to keep cool.

After seven hours of talks in Brussels, Mr Davis - who had previously promised the "row of the summer" over the timetable for the negotiations - said he was optimistic about the talks.

Mr Davis said Britain is determined to build a "strong and special partnership" with the EU.

"There is more that unites us than divides us", Davis said, referring to the latest reported terror attack overnight in London and the loss of lives in forest fires in Portugal.

Almost a year to the day since Britons shocked themselves and their neighbors by voting on June 23 to cut loose from their main trading partner, and nearly three months since Prime Minister Theresa May locked them into a two-year countdown to Brexit in March 2019, almost nothing about the future is clear.

May has said she is open to some kind of association agreement with the customs union and wants to avoid any so-called "cliff-edge" into uncertain trading conditions, but she has also said Britain must be able to control immigration - something it can not do while a member of the EU.

It's been reported that Meghan will be reloacting to London in the fall, where she'll be moving into Kensington Palace with Harry. This token of Harry's commitment is the latest gift with which the Prince has presented his girlfriend of one year.

Subjects for the negotiations include the status of expats, the Northern Ireland border and the so-called "divorce bill".

May's election debacle has revived feuding over Europe among Conservatives that her predecessor David Cameron hoped to end by calling the referendum and leaves European Union leaders unclear on her plan for a "global Britain" which majority regard as pure folly.

He added: "The United Kingdom has made a decision to leave the European Union, it is not the other way around".

EU leaders want May to lay off threats that she would walk out and leave a chaotic legal limbo for all Europeans.

Once agreement has been made in this phase of the talks, the second phase discussing the future trade relationship can begin. "And we want to try to solve the hard things as well as possible".

U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond said on Sunday he wanted a "jobs first" Brexit - a hint that he believes economic concerns should be prioritized over the political demand to cut immigration from the EU.

The five lobby groups, including the British Chambers of Commerce and the CBI, have also called on ministers to prioritise an early deal on guarantees for European Union 27 citizens in the United Kingdom and for United Kingdom citizens in other European Union countries.

Both men will meet for a week every month to negotiate, and use the time in between to "work on proposals".
