Newt Gingrich, the confidante to President Trump who as House Speaker in the 1990s voted to impeach Bill Clinton for obstruction of justice, said Friday that the "President can not obstruct justice".
After Gingrich blamed liberal rhetoric for the shooting of Rep Steve Scalise on Wednesday, his latest tweet suggested a controversial conspiracy [VIDEO]about #Robert Mueller, which prompted one host on MSNBC take him to task.
"I think it's fantastic, if you look at the - for example, CNN's 93 percent negative coverage according to Harvard, 93 percent negative, I think it's a miracle that Trump has any approval", Gingrich said.
Gingrich said he thinks Trump at this point is "furious".

Following Comey's testimony last week, when he alluded to the Mueller investigation that already likely included a probe into obstruction of justice, a number of Trump's top conservative boosters began pointing out flaws they saw in Mueller and his investigation. "Mueller is now clearly the tip of the deep state spear aimed at destroying or at a minimum undermining and crippling the Trump presidency", Gingrich tweeted Thursday. For Newt's third, more visibly desperate, act, the one-time leader of the Republican party's new strategy appears to be saying outlandish, often incoherent things diametrically opposed to what he's said previously in an effort to support Donald Trump. Noting that Trump is "infuriated" by all this "Russian bologna", Gingrich also rebuked Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for appointing special counsel Robert Mueller.
'I keep telling everybody at the White House, this is not like NY real estate law, this is criminal law, ' he said. But if you apply his words to the current situation, Gingrich is the person now going on television both to sell his book and defend his wife's boss.
"I didn't think at the moment he was going to win. As a historian, I just don't believe it". "Apparently, over and over again Trump is told privately you are not under investigation but nobody will officially admit it". Gingrich posted on May 17, "Robert Mueller is a superb choice to be special counsel. We may not get anything on obstruction, but maybe there's going to be perjury". "He is infuriated, and legitimately, in my judgment, by this whole Russian baloney".
