However, Ronaldo's future at Real Madrid has been thrown into fresh doubt after it emerged that the Portuguese superstar has told the club that he wants to leave this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo is not letting accusations of tax fraud and fresh transfer speculation get to him, according to Portugal team-mate Andre Silva.

Jorge Mendes, who is one of the most influential personalities in soccer, is also Ronaldo's agent.

The rumours of a possible transfer back to England by the two-time Ballon d'Or victor started after a report surfaced that Spanish authorities have accused the 32-year-old of avoiding £14.7m in taxes. They have accused him of evading tax of €14.7m (£13m, $16m). If he leaves Madrid, Ronaldo wants to stay in Europe which would rule out a move to the Chinese Super League.

Ramon Calderon, the man who brought Cristiano Ronaldo to Madrid from Manchester, says that changing the player's mind about leaving will be very hard.

They wouldn't keep their lead into half-time though, Javier Hernandez drawing Mexico level just before the interval. Vela combined with Raul Jimenez, who laid off the ball to an onrushing Hernandez.

Ronaldo, who joined Real from Manchester United for £80m in 2009, signed a five-year deal with the European champions in November 2016. The Champions League and the La Liga winners claim the former Manchester United man had "always shown a clear will to fulfill all his tax obligations".

Real released a statement, saying they have full confidence in their player.

"As far as I can see, he is motivated about the national team - he is focused and very serious", Silva told reporters after being asked how Ronaldo had seemed since the tax charges emerged on Tuesday.

His Real contract is understood to have a buyout clause of 1 billion euros (£874 million) and, in May, Forbes calculated his pre-tax salary as being close to £45 million a year.

Ronaldo, on Confederations Cup duty in Russian Federation with Portugal, is reportedly furious over a tax probe into the off shore accounts dealing with his image rights, and has reportedly vowed to leave Spain.
