Witnesses described how a man yelled "I'm going to kill all Muslims" as the vehicle ploughed into a group of people close to the Finsbury Park Mosque in north London.
"Following the incident, we have been advised by the Metropolitan Police that people will see an increased number of officers on duty across London".
"I saw people taking a man from underneath the van, he was black, bleeding, he was not dead, he was alive".
"As he was held in a headlock he shouted 'kill me kill me, I've done my job, '" said another eyewitness, who was breaking his fast at a cafe on Tollington Park Road.

She said her thoughts were with the injured, their loved ones and emergency officials who responded to the incident. The attacker was motivated by Islamist extremism, police said.
Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins wrote on Twitter: "Terrible to hear of another terrorist atrocity- attack on #FinsburyPark Mosque is another attack on British values".
The van rammed into the worshipers on Seven Sisters Road, a busy thoroughfare in Finsbury Park, north London, near a Muslim community center and a mosque. The London Ambulance Service says the injured are being taken to hospitals. London police are investigating it as a terrorist incident.
"We have a witness saying that the guy who did what he did, the driver of the van, said 'I did my bit, ' which means he's not mentally ill", Kacimi said. "This is very worrying to the Muslim community".

The identification of the victims is proving very hard - which experts attribute to the extreme heat of the fire. She told BBC One's Sunday Politics: "We are still hearing stories of people not being allocated properly".
Police said they had deployed extra policing resources "to reassure communities, especially those observing Ramadan". Rudd, who is in charge of government law enforcement, said: "Londoners have been hit with a series of attacks and have been nothing short of heroic".
The incident came after two terror attacks in London in the past three months involving vehicles ploughing into crowds of people, as well as the suicide bombing attack at a Manchester pop concert in May.
"Our mosque and welfare centre provides vital support to many people in North London and we will continue to do this despite this incident".
An AFP reporter could see a helicopter and many emergency vehicles at the scene, which was closed off by a large police cordon.
"During the night, ordinary British citizens were set upon while they were going about their lives, completing their night worship".
An imam reportedly saved the van driver involved in the suspected Finsbury Park terrorist attack from being attacked by members of the public in the immediate aftermath of the crash, reported The Independent.
Emotions are high in the United Kingdom in the wake of a series of deadly terrorist attacks and a fire at a London apartment building that killed dozens.
Speaking last week, Ms Robinson said: "At a meeting on Monday night, it was reported that in the wake of the horrendous terrorist attacks in Manchester and London our small Muslim community in Chesterfield has felt under threat".
