President Donald Trump is telling his Twitter followers that they are witnessing the "single greatest WITCH HUNT in American history".
Comey also testified Trump had directed him to drop a related FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.A person familiar with Mueller's inquiry, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Thursday Mueller was looking into whether Trump or others attempted to obstruct the Russian Federation investigation. The Republican president has repeatedly complained about the probe, calling it a witch hunt and saying Democrats can not accept his election victory. The report came quietly but abruptly from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who was brought to Capitol Hill shortly after Comey was sacked in order to fill in for Attorney General Jeff Sessions. I'm being investigated, he says, for firing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director by the man who told me to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director. All week, some of Trump's most ardent defenders, including his son Donald Trump Jr., his White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and friend and occasional adviser Newt Gingrich have questioned the probe in similar ways. Pence's office confirmed he had retained Richard Cullen, a former Virginia attorney general and USA attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to assist "in responding to inquiries" from Mueller.
After Comey's testimony, Trump said he had been vindicated because his former FBI director confirmed telling Trump on three occasions that he was not under investigation.
The media have focused intently on Trump's tweets, accusing him of damaging the "new tone" of civility in Washington after the shooting at the Republican congressional baseball practice.
In an interview with NBC regarding the firing of Comey, Trump talked about how when he chose to fire Comey, he thought that the accusation brought against Trump was "a made-up story, an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won". "I recognize the importance of these questions, and I think that Director Mueller ought to review that and make a determination of whether or not he believes it is within the scope of his investigation". Comey said he believes Trump ultimately fired him "because of the Russian Federation investigation".
Amazon buys supermarket chain Whole Foods Market
The Seattle-headquartered ecommerce giant is considering replacing Whole Foods cashiers with technology, according to the report. In essence, it gives Amazon an established business that it can transform through its technology and supply chain expertise.
In a series of tweets in recent days, the president called the investigation a "witch hunt" and today appeared to call out Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Trump was alluding to the former secretary of state's handling of her private email server, an issue that dogged the Democratic nominee's presidential campaign since before it officially began.
Hours later, a source close to Mr Trump's outside legal team said Mr Trump did not intend his tweet to be confirmation of the investigation but rather was reacting to a Washington Post story on Wednesday about the probe.
The most explosive was a June 14 report in The Post that Mueller's probe "now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice".
Rosenstein was the one to make the decision because Attorney General Jeff Sessions had already recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation. Rosenstein, the official who would be responsible for dismissing Mueller, told US lawmakers he would fire him only with good cause. Trump tweeted. "I can go around them". The order also covers separate inquiries into several key Trump associates including Flynn; campaign adviser Paul Manafort and his business partner, Rick Gates; foreign-policy aide Carter Page; and outside adviser Roger Stone. "I will defend the integrity of that investigation".
