Saudi Arabia says airspace ban for Qatar flights was to protect citizens

The crisis has put Turkey in a hard position as it views Qatar as one of its chief allies in the region, but Ankara also seeks to avoid damaging relations with Saudi Arabia and other Arab states. Most of the dairy supplied to Doha previously came from Saudi Arabia. The Arab states blocked direct flights with Qatar and all except Bahrain barred Qatari flights from using their airspace.

Iran has urged Qatar and neighbouring Gulf countries to engage in dialogue to resolve their dispute.

What's behind Qatar-Gulf freeze?

France has economic and military ties with Qatar and other Gulf states.

Typically, cargo for Qatar stops at Dubai's massive deep-water Jebel Ali port, then gets put on smaller boats heading to Doha.

The Amnesty chief said a delegation from the body, which had earlier visited Qatar, documented around 700 instances in which the Saudi-led measures had resulted in rights violations.

Saudi Arabia has closed the Qatari peninsula's only land border, threatening imports of both fresh food and raw materials needed to complete a $200 billion infrastructure project for the 2022 football World Cup.
