Floyd Mayweather, whose much-hyped fight against UFC star Conor McGregor was officially announced earlier today, will be gunning for his 50th professional boxing victory on August 26.

Unbeaten in 49 bouts before his retirement in September 2015, 40-year-old Mayweather confirmed the fight will take place under normal boxing rules despite 28-year-old McGregor having never boxed either amateur or professionally.

UFC president Dana White told ESPN that the fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena and that McGregor will weigh in at 154 pounds.

Boxing champion turned promoter De La Hoya said a fight between the two would be an embarrassment for the sport of boxing.

McGregor's proposed fight with the MI native, which became a distinct possibility late last month, was confirmed earlier this evening.

WEATHER FORECAST: Hazardous weather outlook - More storms possible
Sunday night will be uncomfortable with moderate to high humidity and temperatures dropping no lower than 70 degrees in spots. A slight cool down returns for early next week, with temperatures generally in the low to mid 80s through next week.

He added: "I'm not saying Conor McGregor's going to win". It finally came together over the last few days, and Nevada boxing officials on Wednesday approved the date for a Mayweather Promotions event.

The fight will be broadcast on Showtime PPV. His fight before that, a decision win over Pacquiao, was the richest in boxing history and reportedly made him more than $200 million. The Las Vegas match up between the best in boxing and the best in UFC has been set for August 26. "There has been overwhelming demand from fight fans, and it's great to be able to deliver".

"Mayweather is a massive favourite, but we've already seen a lot of bets on McGregor landing one of his "Notorious" left hands and winning by KO".

On paper, the matchup might seem intriguing: Mayweather has home-field advantage, but is 40 years old and has technically been retired for nearly two years, while the 28-year-old McGregor has a two-inch reach advantage and a track record of flattening the jaws and ambitions of many a UFC featherweight and lightweight with his meaty left hand.
