J&K: Bodies of 3 militants killed in Anantnag encounter found

Three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were killed in Arwani village of Anantnag during an encounter on Friday.

Yesterday, a cordon and search operation was started at the Arwani village after security forces received intelligence inputs about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area.

The third Friday of the holy month of Ramzan turned out to be the bloodiest day as an SHO among six policemen, two terrorists, including senior LeT commander Junaid Mattoo, and two civilians died in separate incidents of violence across Kashmir Valley.

"He was involved in killing of police Constable at Bogund, Kulgam on 15th of this month". In another incident, a policeman and a civilian protester injured on Thursday in Hyderpora and Rangreth areas of Srinagar succumbed to injuries in the hospital around midnight.

Police said the civilians were killed in the crossfire between militants and the government forces.

Police officials who spoke to Anadolu Agency on the condition of anonymity, said militants opened fire on a group of policemen in Achabal area killing six.

As a result of the casualties, the separatists called for a protest shutdown and authorities imposed section 144 in south Kashmir.

The bodies of the three militants were recovered by the forces.

In a statement issued here Saturday Jama'at said that the forces personnel have been given "license to kill Kashmiri youth at random and destroy their properties so as to devastate them economically too".

In a message sent out from Central Jail, JKLF Chairman Yasin Malik said that "our young ones", pushed to wall by military and police might are left with no choice "but to sacrifice their lives for dignity and freedom". The two houses being used as fortified bunkers by the LeT commander and his associate in Arwani village were demolished by the security forces using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The militants decamped with the service weapons of the slain policemen. The police were not travelling in bullet proof vehicle. A team comprising Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF used IEDs to blast the two houses.
